Ashanti emerged on the music scene in 2002, appearing on Ja Rule’s “Always on Time” and Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?” before releasing her self-titled debut album that April. Ashanti debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B album charts, selling more than 500,000 copies in its first week and becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a female artist in SoundScan history. The achievement earned Ashanti a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, a record she still holds today. Ashanti became the first female artist to simultaneously hold the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Foolish” and “What’s Luv?”

Her debut single, “Foolish,” spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her hits include “Happy,” “Baby,” “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby),” “Rain on Me” and “Only U,” along with collaborations “Always on Time” with Ja Rule and “What’s Luv?” with Fat Joe.
