GREENSBORO, NC, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Drift Tax: Why Organizations Pay Twice for the Same Performance and How to Stop, by Jim Rembach, earned Amazon’s Best Seller badge in two categories on October 14, 2026, two days after LEI Press released it. The categories are Quality Control and Total Quality Management. Both sit under Management & Leadership in Amazon’s Business & Money section.
The book is about the hidden taxes a business pays when its people drift from performance expectations, causing execution failures. Most of those costs never show up under their real name. They show up as AI pilots that stall, and roughly 90 to 95 percent of enterprise pilots fail to deliver scalable business impact. They show up as change initiatives that miss, which about 70 percent do. And they show up as flat productivity in companies where everyone is working harder than ever.
Rembach’s argument is that these are one problem, not three. Organizations pay for judgment, ownership, and consistency when they hire a leader. Under ordinary pressure, that behavior slips. Then the company buys it back through consultants, coaching, relaunches, and new programs, and books the second payment as something else.
“I wrote this for the leader who did everything right and still watched the results slip,” said Rembach, Executive Director of the Leadership Execution Institute. “That person has been sitting in budget and performance reviews for years, trying to use traditional methods that are widely taught to fix post-AI complexity problems. A lot of them found the book in its first week. That tells me the cost was already being felt. It just didn’t have a name.”
Who is the book written for?
Chief financial officers, chief operating officers, and the senior leaders who answer to them, mostly in organizations of a few hundred to a few thousand people. The book is built for the leaders who have to explain why an approved investment did not pay off. Each chapter ends with a working tool rather than advice, such as a test for whether several “unrelated” problems share one upstream cause.
What is the Drift Tax Diagnostic?
The Drift Tax Diagnostic is included in the book and available at www.thedrifttax.com. It is ten statements about how an organization runs on an ordinary Tuesday, scored as an Architecture Score that shows how much of the organization’s stability is held by design rather than by effort.
The Drift Tax is available in hardcover, paperback, ebook, and audiobook through Amazon and major retailers. Excerpts, details, and the diagnostic are at www.thedrifttax.com.
